Drug Court Planning Initiative
Welcome to the Drug Court Planning Initiative (DCPI) web site sponsored by the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), Office of Justice Programs, U.S. Department of Justice, and the Office of Juvenile Justice & Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP). This site provides communities participating in DCPI training programs with resource materials that enhance the DCPI training experience. Training resources contained herein are provided as supplements to the materials obtained at each DCPI training program and do not necessarily represent the position or policies of the U.S. Department of Justice.
DCPI is a training initiative that helps communities develop effective adult, juvenile, family, and tribal drug court programs. Communities interested in planning a drug court program are encouraged to register for DCPI.
Adult
The Adult Drug Court Planning Initiative is designed to fulfill three interconnected goals: (1) to educate the team on the basic concepts of drug court, including information on building the components of a drug court; (2) to provide the team with the fundamental skills necessary for the paradigm shift from standard case processing to drug court case processing; and (3) to encourage and educate the team to build their program with an emphasis on cultural competency, while integrating the court and treatment. Resource materials are provided.
Juvenile
The Juvenile Drug Court Planning Initiative is a series of training programs designed to (1) promote team development and planning concepts, (2) develop and enhance juvenile drug court knowledge and practices, and (3) assist jurisdictions in moving from the planning stage to the implementation stage. Resource materials are provided.
Family
The Family Drug Court Planning Initiative is a series of training programs designed to assist communities in developing effective family drug court programs that address the needs of families involved in the dependency system. Training session topics will include the history and concepts of the drug court movement, the evolution of family drug courts, application of the drug court concepts to the dependency population, and working within the mandates of the Adoption and Safe Families Act of 1997. Resource materials are provided.
Tribal
This training initiative consists of separate programs designed for adult and juvenile tribal training programs. This unique tribal justice approach combines judicial supervision, substance abuse treatment, Native American traditional healing practices, and other community resources in a nonadversarial setting. Structure, accountability, effective therapeutic processes, monitoring, and evaluation are the cornerstones of tribal wellness courts. Resource materials are provided for each training program.
